Coffee Table Painting

Here are some few tips on how to DIY coffee table painting.

A coffee table made of metal-and-glass hand-me-down may look ancient, but don’t put it on a garage sale just yet. A little spray and coat of paint that complements your interior paint color combination may just do the trick to make it 21st century stylish.

Between the spiraling economy and the itch to flex your artistic muscles in doing a coffee table makeover, splurging on having it done is impractical. In this case, nothing beats homemade. If you’re tired of the usual paint color, personalize your coffee table by giving it a hue that reflects you. By matching it with your interior paint color combination and being a little creative, you are all set to pimp your coffee table.

Tools of the Trade:

* old glass-and-metal coffee table
* paint that matches your interior paint color combination

Here are some steps in Coffee Table Tweaking:

1. Detach the glass from the metal frame. Wrap the glass with newspaper to avoid any scratches.

2. Scrape the rust out of the metal frame using a steel wool. Make sure to take out all traces of rust for a smoother metal surface.

3. Choose a paint to apply on the frame. Try using light colors (white, light blue) if your interior paint is already loud to make a stark contrast. On the other hand, line the metal with strong colors (red, black) if your room’s interior paint color combination is a little light. It would sure do magic to the room not only your coffee table.

4. Do the painting on a well-ventilated area. On the floor, spread a cardboard or a cloth wide enough to set the metal frame on.

5. Shake the paint can for two minutes. From 10-15 inches away from, spray the metal frame with a thin layer of paint that complements your interior paint color combination. With a sweeping motion, starts off on one side and continue to the other. Set it aside to dry completely (Check the can for drying time).

6. Apply a second coat. Make sure that the whole metal frame gets a second coat. Make sure not to make the paint too thick or too thin to make the frame smooth and shiny. Set it aside to dry completely (Check the can for drying time).

7. Clean both sides of the glass. Make sure that all dirt and dust are removed. Then, put a slight coat of spray-paint on the underside. The paint combination would not only give the glass a pretty color but also a sophisticated opacity. It would also protect the glass from scratching making it easier to clean.
